Apple Watch SE is available in two sizes; 44mm and 40mm, so obviously the 44mm size is bigger than the Sense, that’s why this comparison is between the 40mm Watch SE and Fitbit Sense. Both are very compact and lightweight which is what a fitness smartwatch should be. Both smartwatches have cases made of aluminum materials which is accompanied by silicone straps.
While AMOLED powers the display of Fitbit Sense, LTPO OLED powers the display of Watch SE, both offer a colorful and easy to read to display. However, Watch SE lacks always-on display mode that is present on Fitbit Sense.
Nevertheless, I personally think Watch SE has a more advanced aesthetics than Fitbit Sense. I don’t fancy the haptic button on Fitbit Sense, it can be frustrating sometimes getting it to work.
Like I mentioned earlier, each of these two is fitness-oriented and well equipped to track your active life comprehensively. Apple added a sleep tracking app to its smartwatches which is also present on Fitbit Sense. Both smartwatches will track your resting heart rate, heart rate zone, and range.
Both smartwatches house an inbuilt GPS that allows you to track outdoor activities, and there are preset sport modes to choose from. Any of these two will also track your steps, count calories and floors climbed.
Fitbit Sense features an ECG app that allows you to take ECG tests directly from your wrist. It can also track your blood oxygen overnight which is displayed through the Fitbit Signature watch face. This is a limited feature as you can’t track your blood oxygen on request. There is also the Fitbit Coach app on Fitbit Sense which features a couple of workout modes, it coaches you through some of your favorite moves and can save you money on subscription.
Meanwhile, Apple Watch SE cellular model features incidental fall detection and international emergency calling that allows you to call emergency contacts almost anywhere in the world.
Nonetheless, both Apple Watch SE and Fitbit Sense are very nice fitness smartwatches, although, Fitbit Sense is a more complete fitness tracker.
Both smartwatches offer music storage on-device, although Watch SE has a higher 32GB storage capacity compared to 4GB of Fitbit Sense. Moreover, while you can add your personal music to Apple Watch SE, you can’t add personal music to Fitbit Sense. You can only control Spotify playlist, download Deezer playlists, and Pandora stations on Fitbit Sense.
It is worthwhile to note that despite the presence of a microphone and loudspeaker in Fitbit Sense, you can’t make and receive calls directly from the watch. You can only answer calls that must be continued on your connected phone. Meanwhile, Watch SE allows you to make and receive calls directly from the watch.
From my experience, Fitbit Sense gave me an average of 4-5 days which a lot longer than Watch SE that is tested to last up to 18 hrs which is very disappointing.
Which is a Better Smartwatch?
Both Fitbit Sense and Watch SE are two fine smartwatches, it a battle between fitness tracking and lifestyle features. Fitbit Sense seems to be a more complete fitness smartwatch with far longer battery life than Watch SE.
Meanwhile, Watch SE which is cheaper, but only compatible with iOS devices, offers Bluetooth calling, more storage capacity, and a more attractive design, yet a comprehensive fitness tracker.
So, Which Should You Buy?
It depends on what matters most to you, longer battery life and more health tracking features, or more features that improve your lifestyle and shorter battery life? It’s up to you.
