The design of Gen 6 is very similar to that of Gen 5, it has a circular shape with three physical buttons. It comes in two sizes: 42mm and 44mm. The case is made of stainless steel with straps available in leather, stainless, and silicone materials. While the 42mm size is compatible with 18mm wide straps, and the 44mm is compatible with 22mm straps.
Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display of the Gen 6 and it is rated 3ATM which represents 30meters waterproof. Going by this rating, it’s safe to wear the Gen 6 under rain or perhaps to the shower (not recommended for deepwater activities)
On the other hand, Ticwatch Pro 3 is also durably built, it has a case size of 47mm while the straps come in silicone. The case is made of stainless steel reinforced with high-strength nylon and glass fiber material. The Gen 6 is a more compact smartwatch than Ticwatch 4 Pro. The Ticwatch Pro also has three physical buttons with touchscreen support for effortless navigation.
Ticwatch Pro 3 has a 1.4 inches display that is bigger than Gen 6’s 1.28 inches. While Gen 6 is powered by AMOLED, the Ticwatch Pro 3 has a dual display mode of AMOLED/FSTN. This allows you to switch between the two displays, the FSTN display extends the battery life of Ticwatch Pro 3 by up to 45 days, but however, disables all Wear OS features leaving just time, date, and other minimal features.
Like other Fossil smartwatches, the Gen 6 is fitness-centered, and this time, Fossil has added an Spo2 sensor for blood oxygen measurement. Fossil Gen 6 is also equipped with a heart rate sensor, altimeter, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, and an inbuilt GPS. These sensors enable it to track your heart rate, steps, calories, sleep, and floors climbed. The inbuilt GPS enables tracking for outdoor activities like your routes and locations.
Ticwatch Pro 3 also has these features, it’s equipped with a heart rate sensor, altimeter, compass, gyroscope, Spo2 sensor, and inbuilt GPS. It can track your outdoor activities like your routes and locations. It can also track your heart rate, sleep, stress and can also count floors. Blood oxygen monitoring is also available on Ticwatch Pro 3. Both Gen 6 and Ticwatch Pro 3 feature preloaded sport modes that you can choose from.
In addition, Ticwatch Pro 3 features hearing protection and breathing rate monitoring which are not available on Gen 6. In other words, Ticwatch Pro 3 has more health tracking features than Gen 6.
Both Ticwatch Pro 3 and Gen 6 are packed with an 8GB storage capacity that allows you to store your favorite tracks on the watch. Each of these two also has a microphone and loudspeaker that allow you to make and receive calls directly from the watch as long as your phone is nearby. You can access Google Assistant on both smartwatches which will allow you to use your voice to do simple tasks.
With the Gen 6 and Ticwatch Pro 3, you can manage notifications that you receive on your phone. When notification is enabled in the respective companion apps, the Gen 6 will alert you when there is an incoming call, SMS, or notifications from other apps installed on your phone. Ticwatch Pro 3 will also alert you when you receive a notification on your phone. Both watches will also allow you to reply to messages.
Each of these two has an NFC that supports Google Pay – a non-contactless system that allows you to make payment directly from the watch (a great way to stay safe from Covid-19).
The battery life of the Gen 6 has not seen any significant improvement from that of Gen 5 despite being powered by the 4100+ chip. It can last up to 24hours, and therefore means that you will need to charge the device at least every day if you wish to wear it daily.
On the other hand, the Ticwatch Pro 3 which features a dual display mode has a longer battery life than Gen 6. With the AMOLED display, Ticwatch Pro 3 can last up to 48 hours, while the FSTN essential display mode will keep you going for up to 45 days.
Which is Better?
Each of these two is a well-designed smartwatch, equipped with lots of features. It boils down to what tickles your fantasy. Personally, I will go with Ticwatch Pro 3, it’s a more comprehensive smartwatch with longer battery life than Gen 6.
