The presence of a microphone and loudspeaker in a smartwatch indicates the device is probably capable of making and receiving calls directly on the watch. This should be the case with the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 as these two have both a microphone and a loudspeaker, but that’s not entirely the case. You can comfortably answer a call on the Versa 3 or Sense when your phone is nearby, but there is no official way to make a call directly from any of these two. The only way I found you can initiate a call is via Google Assistant.
Recall that Fitbit had introduced Google Assistant to the Sense and Versa 3 which in addition to Alexa makes it two voice assistants. However, only Google Assistant will allow you to make calls directly from the Versa. At least for now until perhaps a future update that allows you to make calls on Versa 3 or Sense just like you would with a Galaxy or Apple smartwatch. This is a simple guide that will show you how to make and receive calls directly from your Fitbit Sense or Versa 3.
How to Receive Calls on Fitbit Versa 3
To make and receive calls directly from the Versa 3, you’ll need to setup on-wrist calls. You can learn how to setup on-wrist calls. Once you have successfully setup on-wrist calls for your Versa 3 or Sense, you’ll get an alert when there is an incoming call. You can answer or reject the call directly on the device. There are also options to increase or decrease volume as well as mute the call.
Note that you need a Bluetooth headphone connected to your Fitbit Versa 3 or Sense to enjoy on-wrist calls on any of these two. You really don’t want a situation where you have to raise your hand towards your ear to answer a call, it’s awkward.
To connect a Bluetooth headphone to the Versa 3, go to the settings app>>vibration & audio>>Bluetooth, scroll to manage devices, then search and pair your Bluetooth headphone to the watch.
How to Make Calls on Fitbit Versa 3
For now, only Google Assistant can help you start a call directly from your Versa 3 or Sense. Your Phone needs to be nearby with internet access enabled for this to work. And of course, Google Assistant should be active. If you have enabled Google Assistant, simply open the app and ask the voice assistant to call any contact on your phone. It will start a call on your phone and you can continue the call on your phone.
