Galaxy Watch 4 – New Features
- Exynos W920 Chip Powers the Galaxy Watch 4
- Galaxy Watch 4 Runs on Wear OS 3
- Body Composition Measurement Added
- Storage Capacity Increased to 16GB
- 2D Glass over 2.5D Glass
One of the biggest additions to the Galaxy Watch 4 series is that they are powered by Exynos W920 – a 5nm chip that Samsung claims boosts CPU and GPU performance by 20% and 10x respectively. This is paired with 1.5GB RAM to offer blazing performance for the Wear OS watches.
Secondly, as a result of the collaboration between Google and Samsung, the Galaxy Watch 4 runs on Wear OS 3 – the new operating system with Samsung’s One UI interface that offers a decent and easy to navigate user interface. New Wear OS smartwatches like the Gen 6 will run on the Wear OS 3 by next year as well as Ticwatch Pro 3 and E3 being the only existing Wear OS watches to be upgraded to the new operating system.
Body composition measurement has been added to the Galaxy Watch 4. This will allow the device to measure your body fat, body water, skeletal muscle, and BMI. In addition, the Galaxy Watch will track your heart rate 24/7, track your sleep in four stages. It features high-end health tracking features like ECG, blood oxygen, and blood pressure measurement. There are lots of sport modes to choose from and it also has an inbuilt GPS that allows you to track your outdoor activities like routes and locations.
The storage capacity of the Galaxy Watch 4 has been ramed up to 16GB. This will allow you to store even more of your favorite tracks on the watch. It also features a microphone and loudspeaker that allows you to either play music aloud or make and receive calls from the watch (phone must be nearby). See the difference between the Bluetooth and LTE models.
The Glass protecting the display of the Galaxy Watch 4 has been redesigned. Samsung opted for a 2D design over a 2.5D design of the Active 2. I really like the 2D Glass of the Galaxy Watch 4, it makes it more stylish and bold. The same 2D Glass is expected on the Apple Watch Series 7.
Galaxy Watch 4 (40mm) vs (44mm) – The Difference
- The 40mm is more compact
- The 40mm is cheaper
Both sizes of the Galaxy Watch 4 are very lightweight, thanks to the aluminum body and also very compact. However, the 40mm is more compact than the 44mm size. It weighs just 26g (excluding straps) as against 30g (excluding straps) of the 44mm. While both watches can be worn by males and females, the 40mm size will be a more suitable choice for individuals with thin wrists. Furthermore, the 40mm is available in three colors: pink-gold, black, and silver, while the 44mm is available in black, green, and silver.
The 40mm is also cheaper than the 44mm which is no surprise considering that the 44mm has a longer battery life and a larger display that allows you to see more at a glance.
- 40mm Bluetooth model cost $249.99
- 44mm Bluetooth model cost $279.99
- 40mm LTE model cost $299.99
- 44mm LTE model cost $329.99
The 44mm comes with a 361mAh battery capacity compared to the 40mm size that comes with a 247mAh battery capacity. As a result, the 44mm has a longer battery life that lets you go longer. With the 44mm you can get up to 2 days battery life and with the 40mm is just about a 24hours+
The 44mm which is bigger than the 40mm size has a slightly bigger display size that lets you see more at a glance. While the 40mm has a 1.2 inches display, the 44mm has a 1.4 inches display. The display on both smartwatches is powered by Super AMOLED while navigation is via touchscreen, the digital rotating bezel, and 2 physical buttons.
44mm vs 40mm Size – Which Size is Right For You?
On the norm, the smaller 40mm size is recommended for women, while the 44mm size is recommended for men. However, if you have impaired vision, the 44mm is a better choice, it has a slightly larger display that lets you see more. Furthermore, you should check your wrist size with a meter rule and compare it to the two sizes so that you can select a watch that sits nicely on your wrist.
It’s not really about the price, it’s about a watch that fits nicely on your wrist. It’s advised that you know your wrist size to be sure you’re getting the right size for you.
